Description
This course is designed to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required to conduct complex and sensitive criminal investigations of breach of trust and related offences in the Criminal Code. This course exposes investigators to different advanced investigative techniques as well as the relevant knowledge, management skills and investigative abilities to perform their function as primary investigator of criminal allegations against police officers and other public safety participants.

Pre-course reading material provided to registered participants (approximately 3 hrs).
Theoretical components are offered in classroom.
Practical exercises take place in syndicate rooms.
Learning outcomes
- Knowledge of different advanced investigative techniques
- Understanding and application of investigative security considerations in conducting sensitive criminal investigations of police officers and other public safety participants
- Understanding how to apply Major Case Management principles as they relate to the role and responsibilities of the primary investigator
Eligibility and mandatory requirements
- This course is offered to peace officers serving in a specialized unit responsible for investigating sensitive allegations of breach of trust and other serious criminal allegations against police officers and other public safety public officials
- Acceptance or refusal in the course is at the discretion of the Canadian Police College
Assessment
- Success in the course is based on participation and completion of all required assignments
- Various evaluation methods are used, including a written exam
- Re-testing or re-evaluation is conducted at the discretion of the course instructor
