Police Explosives Technicians Validation Course (PETVC)

Purpose

This course is designed for police explosives technicians who have completed a Police Explosives Technicians Course & Radiography (PETC). The overall goal of this course is to ensure continued competence in the skills and procedures previously acquired and to update participants on new equipment, procedures and devices being encountered.

Objectives

  • take x-rays using various types of radiographic equipment
  • identify explosives
  • use explosives disposal equipment
  • explain recent research involving explosives and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) incidents
  • use explosives and disruptors on an explosives range
  • demonstrate render safe procedures.

Participant Selection Criteria

The PETVC is required for police explosives technicians 3 years after having successfully completed the Canadian Police College's PETC. The following criteria apply:

  1. Candidates must provide documentation of quarterly training

Participant Assessment

Written and practical assessments on a variety of topics. Practical exercises in which the participant is assessed on his/her ability to render safe improvised explosives devices in a variety of realistic situations.

Duration: Participant Assessment

Location: This course will be held at the explosives training facility at the Canadian Police College.

Number of participants: There will be 12 participants.

Language of instruction: This course will be delivered in English.
