Forced Entry Instructors (PETFEI)

Purpose

To provide Police Explosives Technicians (PET) with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to use explosives to effect ground-level entries into building walls, doors and windows. The course will train the PET to train other PETs in all aspects of the Explosives Forced Entry (EFE) program pertaining to ground-level entries, and to supervise an emergency response team (ERT) when using explosives to gain entry through ground-floor walls, doors and windows.

Course content

  1. Preparing the explosives entry charges
  2. Identifying all the various pieces of equipment needed for the program
  3. Acting as a resource person for other departmental PETs for the EFE program
  4. Acting as a resource person and providing operational capability to the Emergency Response Team for the EFE program
  5. Providing regular maintenance training to PETs and members of the ERT

Student selection criteria

Students must be Police Explosives Technicians with at least two years recent experience related to explosives. Ideally, they have taken either the "Effective Presentation" or the "Instructional Techniques" course.

Student assessment

Each student will be assessed through participation in practical exercises.

Duration of course: ten working days

Class size: twelve students
