Critical Incident Commanders (COMNDR)

(Formerly called Incident Commander - Hostage/Barricaded Persons)

Purpose

To provide students with the knowledge, skills and procedures for planning and directing operations in critical incident situations such as hostage and/or barricarded person(s) situations.

Course content

  2. theory of hostage negotiations
  3. psychology of Conflict Management (Hostage/Barricaded Persons)
  4. scene management
  5. tactical considerations

Student selection criteria

This training is designed for senior police supervisors who are required to assume and retain command of police operations in critical incident situations such as hostage/barricaded person(s) situations. The methodology taught makes it suitable for police agencies which maintain a tactical unit with hostage resolution capability. Only students with a supporting recommendation letter from the incident commander coordinator/manager will be considered.

Student assessment: Students will be required to demonstrate a functional understanding of the concepts, philosophies and methodologies contained in the training through syndicate studies, presentations and scenario evaluations.

Duration of course: ten working days

Size of class: sixteen students
